Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager, provided insight into the situation regarding Gabriel Martinelli’s substitution during the match against Everton on Sunday.

The Brazilian talent, a crucial part of Arsenal’s attacking setup, was forced to leave the field due to a muscular injury.

Martinelli had showcased a solid start to the Premier League campaign, displaying his offensive prowess and coming close to netting a goal at Goodison Park.

A beautifully executed through ball from Fabio Vieira allowed Martinelli to score; however, the goal was disallowed due to Eddie Nketiah being offside in the buildup.

The 22-year-old forward seemed to experience discomfort related to a muscle issue during the VAR review.

He was eventually replaced by Leandro Trossard in the 24th minute of the match. Despite this early substitution, Trossard made a significant impact later in the game, scoring a magnificent left-footed goal in the 69th minute.

Speaking after the game, Arteta shed light on Martinelli’s injury, stating that it occurred during the “activity for the run on the goal.” The manager highlighted that Martinelli isn’t typically prone to muscular problems, making this situation a cause for concern.

The extent of the injury will be evaluated further, and Arteta expressed a wait-and-see approach regarding Martinelli’s availability for upcoming matches.

Over the past 18 months, Martinelli has been a consistent starter for Arsenal, often occupying the left wing.

Despite the preseason competition from Trossard for a starting position, Arteta had maintained faith in Martinelli’s capabilities.

During the Everton game, Martinelli had an opportunity to score but missed, although he had recorded two assists earlier in the season.

Currently valued at €80 million by Transfermarkt, Martinelli’s potential absence due to a muscular ailment could have implications for Arsenal’s upcoming fixtures, including their Champions League campaign.

If the injury diagnosis confirms a muscular issue, Martinelli might have to wait for his Champions League debut, adding to Arteta’s selection challenges.

The Arsenal medical team will carefully assess the situation to determine the best course of action for Martinelli’s recovery and return to play. The priority will be to ensure his fitness and avoid exacerbating the injury.
