The Premier League has declared the harshest penalty for the referees involved in the Tottenham vs. Liverpool match.

Following a significant error made by Darren England and Dan Cook during the Liverpool vs. Tottenham match, both officials have been relieved of their duties for the remaining games of the weekend.

During the Saturday match, the duo incorrectly informed the referee that Luis Diaz’s first-half goal should not have been allowed due to an offside call. However, a miscommunication led them to mistakenly convey to the referee that the offside check was completed, believing the goal was onside.

The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) acknowledged the substantial human error in their decision. However, they also mentioned in a post-game statement that this error did not assist Jurgen Klopp’s team at this crucial juncture.

Dale Johnson reported that as a consequence of this error, Darren England was removed as the fourth official for the Nottingham Forest vs. Brentford match, and Dan Cook was taken off as the assistant referee for Fulham’s match against Chelsea on Monday.

Given the widespread attention this mistake has garnered, it is highly likely that both officials will not have any responsibilities in the games for the following weekend as well.

A thorough debrief will be essential after the Tottenham and Liverpool game to address the incident.

This season, due to various decisions made in the Premier League, many fans have lost confidence in VAR. The error involving Luis Diaz’s goal only further exacerbates this issue, as the correct decision was evidently clear and straightforward.
