Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is making a sincere plea to Pep Guardiola to permit him to secure a loan deal for a highly talented Manchester City player in January. His intention is to leverage the player’s exceptional skills in order to compete in the Champions League next season.

Kalvin Phillips, who joined Manchester City from Leeds United in the summer of 2022, is reportedly seeking an exit from the club. The English midfielder aims to make a move to Newcastle United during the January transfer window, as per TEAMtalk.

Newcastle’s Sporting Director, Dan Ashworth, has engaged with CAA Stellar, Phillips’ agency, regarding the potential transfer.

Phillips, a 27-year-old England international midfielder, is determined to join Newcastle as he desires more first-team opportunities leading up to Euro 2024. TEAMtalk also asserts that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has no plans for Phillips and has given him the green light to depart.

From my perspective, Manchester City should be cautious about selling Kalvin Phillips to Newcastle United. The reasoning behind Manchester City’s willingness to offload Kalvin Phillips in the January transfer window has become apparent to me.

Phillips, who was lauded as “unreal” by West Ham United star Michail Antonio, has been a peripheral figure at Manchester City.

He has featured for only 70 minutes in the Premier League this season and made just two league starts the previous season. Hence, it is reasonable for City to consider cutting their losses on a player they acquired for £42 million from Leeds United.

However, if possible, the reigning Premier League champions should refrain from selling Phillips to Newcastle.

Newcastle United is making a resurgence in English football and could potentially challenge for the Premier League title this season and in the years to come. If Phillips were to join Newcastle, it would only bolster Eddie Howe’s squad.

There have also been rumors linking Bayern Munich to a potential acquisition of Phillips. Therefore, City might contemplate offering the midfielder to the Bundesliga champions instead.

In conclusion, the decision regarding Kalvin Phillips’ future could have significant implications for both Manchester City and Newcastle United.

It remains to be seen whether City will proceed with the transfer and how this move could influence the fortunes of both clubs in the Premier League. The next transfer window will provide clarity on Phillips’ destination and his role in English football’s evolving landscape.
