In the past, Liverpool has been connected to a number of highly talented wingers as potential replacements for Mohamed Salah, and once again, the name Rodrygo has resurfaced.
Reports in Spanish media suggest that Jurgen Klopp is showing significant interest in acquiring the Brazilian international to potentially fill the shoes of Mohamed Salah at Anfield.
Eduardo Inda, a journalist with Diario Madridista, has stated that Klopp has a deep admiration for Rodrygo. According to Inda, Klopp not only excels as a coach but also holds a high regard for exceptionally gifted players.
He particularly values a player from Real Madrid who is well-regarded by the club’s management but may consider leaving if Kylian Mbappe signs with the club in the upcoming summer.
This player, theoretically, could be the one to step into Salah’s position. Inda goes on to claim that Rodrygo is Klopp’s personal favorite and that he envisions him as the perfect addition to Liverpool’s squad, especially if slots open up due to potential transfers at Real Madrid.
Rodrygo’s versatility is a notable asset, as he can perform effectively as a center forward or on either wing.
His most impressive performances have predominantly been on the right flank. His contributions in Real Madrid’s victorious 2022 UEFA Champions League campaign included five goals and two assists.
The 22-year-old played a significant role in helping Los Blancos score and provide assists for a total of 30 goals across all competitions in the previous season.
Recently, Rodrygo has taken up the No. 9 position following Karim Benzema’s departure in the summer. Nevertheless, he has managed to find the back of the net only twice in 13 games this season.
It’s worth noting that Rodrygo’s preference is not to be a pure striker. In light of this, Real Madrid is reportedly willing to part ways with him for a substantial fee, estimated at £87 million or 100 million euros.
Mohamed Salah, at 31 years old, continues to be Liverpool’s most potent attacker, maintaining his status as the top goal scorer since his arrival at the club in 2017.
Given his track record of success and his role as a top-tier playmaker, any potential replacement for Salah would need to possess exceptional qualities to match his contribution to the team.
