QPR has taken the difficult decision to part ways with manager Gareth Ainsworth following their recent loss to Leicester City. This decision comes as a result of QPR’s dire position in the Championship, with the team currently sitting in 23rd place, six points adrift of safety, after a challenging start to the season.

QPR’s performance this season has been marred by significant struggles, having only secured two victories and suffered ten consecutive losses in the league. Gareth Ainsworth, who left Wycombe after an 11-year tenure to take over QPR in February, was unable to turn the team’s fortunes around and was subsequently relieved of his duties, along with his assistant, Richard Dobson.

Lee Hoos, CEO of QPR, confirmed the decision, acknowledging the difficulties associated with making such choices, especially when it involves individuals highly regarded both personally and professionally. Ainsworth’s dedication and commitment to QPR were evident, and the decision to part ways was not taken lightly.

Hoos expressed the sentiment within QPR that Ainsworth had their full support and respect, as many fans had voiced their desire to see him succeed. However, the harsh reality was that the results this season did not meet expectations, prompting the need for change.

In reflecting on Ainsworth’s tenure, Hoos noted the initial optimism and the professional relationship they shared from the outset.

He also extended his apologies that circumstances had not evolved as desired. Hoos emphasized the board’s sincere gratitude for Ainsworth’s dedication, passion, and professionalism, highlighting the profound respect he held among them. He made it clear that Ainsworth would always be welcomed at the club.

Given the urgency of the situation, the QPR board is fully aware of the need to swiftly appoint a new head coach. An announcement regarding the selection of a new head coach is expected in the coming days.
