In a disheartening development, Kelvin De Bruyne has departed Manchester City to join a Saudi Arabian club. The news of his departure was announced this morning.

Manchester City has reportedly communicated their appraisal of midfielder Kevin De Bruyne in response to interest from the Saudi Pro League. Al Nassr, a club in the Saudi Pro League, has set their sights on De Bruyne with the intention of luring the City legend away from European football in a potential move next summer.

If De Bruyne decides to make the transition to the Saudi Pro League and join forces with Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane, it would also result in a reunion with his former Manchester City teammate Aymeric Laporte, who recently joined the same club.

During the previous summer, De Bruyne chose to remain with City and turned down overtures from Saudi Arabia.

The 2023/24 season hasn’t unfolded as planned for the 32-year-old due to a hamstring injury suffered on the opening day against Burnley, which has kept him sidelined.

Recent reports suggest that Manchester City is open to considering offers for the Belgian midfielder before his contract expires in the summer of 2025.

They have set an asking price of £60 million, despite De Bruyne’s status as one of the world’s premier players when he is in peak condition.

This valuation is expected to pose no problem for the Saudi Pro League, especially with predictions indicating that the 2024 summer transfer window will be one of the most extravagant in history.

De Bruyne’s potential departure next summer would bring an end to his remarkable nine-year journey with Manchester City, during which he cemented his status as one of the Premier League’s all-time midfield greats.

Under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, his time at the club has resulted in an impressive collection of 14 trophies, including five Premier League titles and a Champions League victory.

De Bruyne’s signing from Wolfsburg in 2015 for a reported club-record fee of £54 million, despite initial skepticism from pundits, has undeniably proven to be a shrewd investment.
