Another player from Manchester City has indicated a desire to move to Arsenal in the upcoming January transfer window.

Arsenal’s focus for the January transfer window has shifted due to the latest update on Thomas Partey and his thigh injury. It is reported that the midfielder has undergone a procedure, making it likely that he will be sidelined for the rest of the year, raising doubts about his availability for AFCON 2024.

Partey, who has been grappling with muscular issues in recent seasons, has already missed 10 games this campaign due to injury.

The winter transfer window initially aimed at securing a new striker; however, recent developments have prompted a change in strategy, with Arsenal now seeking to sign a new holding midfielder. Declan Rice has been a target of interest, and alternatives are likely already identified by Mikel Arteta and Edu.

One primary target for Arsenal is Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, who had already attracted interest from the club in the previous summer.

The 24-year-old showcased his prowess in a Champions League match against Benfica, and Arsenal has been tracking him ahead of the January window. Zubimendi, who signed a contract until 2027, comes with a €60 million (£52.3 million) release clause, and competition for his signature has intensified with Bayern Munich also expressing interest.

Another prospect is 18-year-old Gabriel Moscardo, who has drawn attention from Everton, Liverpool, and Chelsea. Despite his age, Moscardo has made 33 appearances in various competitions during the 2022/23 season. His potential affordability compared to more experienced options makes him an attractive option for Arteta.

Kalvin Phillips, who has faced challenges since moving from Leeds United to Manchester City, presents another option for Arsenal. Injuries and competition for minutes have hindered his progress, but he remains a fixture in Gareth Southgate’s England starting XI.

Arteta may aim to help Phillips rediscover his best form, mirroring his efforts with Kai Havertz. A January departure for Phillips is likely, benefiting both parties as the midfielder seeks regular playing time ahead of the European championships.

Arteta might also explore in-house options for a Partey replacement, considering versatile players like Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jurrien Timber. Both are adept at transitioning from full-back roles and could be wildcard replacements for Partey in the midfield.

Arsenal’s revised transfer strategy reflects the challenges posed by Partey’s prolonged absence, and the pursuit of specific targets signals the club’s commitment to reinforcing the squad for the remainder of the season.
