Ed Woodward has secured his initial position post-Manchester United departure, causing surprise across the board.

Ed Woodward has embraced a new role as a non-executive director at EStars, an esports company with a focus on leveraging esports for educational purposes in the Middle East.

This marks Woodward’s first professional engagement since his departure from Manchester United, concluding a 16-year tenure at Old Trafford. His time at the club, particularly as executive vice-chairman from 2012, received widespread criticism for overseeing a significant trophy drought, the worst since the mid-1980s.

EStars, the esports company where Woodward has now joined as a non-executive director, has a mission to integrate esports into education, particularly in the dynamic Middle East region.

In his official statement upon the announcement of his appointment, Woodward expressed enthusiasm about the combination of esports, education, and the agile decision-making environment in the Middle East. He highlighted the potential for success, citing the rapid curriculum decisions in the region. Woodward also commended the leadership and entrepreneurial energy of Mags, a key figure within EStars.

The former Manchester United executive’s move into the esports and education sphere is seen as a strategic decision, aligning with the evolving landscape of the esports industry and its educational applications.

Woodward emphasized the prospect of EStars providing a learning path for the next generation in the relatively new esports industry.

Woodward’s departure from Manchester United led to Richard Arnold taking the reins, transitioning from a managing director role to the CEO position.

The podcast “The Promised Land,” part of the 90min podcast network, features discussions on various football-related topics, including speculations about Garnacho potentially receiving the number seven jersey and considerations for midfield options in the upcoming summer transfer window.
