Sir Jim Ratcliffe has instructed Manchester United scouts to closely observe a former Real Madrid wonderkid valued at £43 million as a potential replacement for Antony, with the prospect of a swap transfer being considered.

Manchester United is considering a move for Japanese star Takefusa Kubo, who has excelled since leaving Real Madrid, with the Red Devils seeking a replacement for Antony, as reported.

The Japanese international, previously associated with Barcelona and Real Madrid, joined Real Sociedad last season, showcasing impressive performances. Manchester United has reportedly sent scouts to watch him on at least seven occasions this season.

Antony, who has underperformed since his high-profile move from Ajax, may be replaced, and Erik ten Hag is contemplating potential changes. Kubo has thrived at Real Sociedad, contributing with 15 goals and 13 assists in 67 games since his £5.5 million move. The 22-year-old, who never featured for Real Madrid and was frequently loaned out, has piqued the interest of Manchester United.

Sociedad, having rejected a £26 million offer from Napoli in the summer, values Kubo around £43 million, and his contract extends until 2027. There is a possibility of Antony moving in the opposite direction, possibly on loan, to enhance the deal. Manchester United will continue monitoring Kubo, with scouts present during Sociedad’s goalless draw with Real Betis, where the Japanese star was named Player of the Match.

Despite the interest, Manchester United is cautious about making January moves due to concerns about Financial Fair Play punishments. Any potential swoop for Kubo may be postponed until the summer, as several of United’s wide forwards face uncertain futures. Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho are among those with unclear prospects under manager Ten Hag.

Barcelona’s manager, Xavi, praised Kubo earlier in the season, calling him a “world-class player.” Kubo himself expressed a desire to be important for his team and contribute in crucial moments. As Manchester United considers bolstering its squad, Kubo emerges as a potential target to address their attacking options.
