INEOS, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has officially acquired a 25% stake in Manchester United, with the confirmation of this news coming on Christmas Eve.
The intention is for Ratcliffe to gradually assume full control of the club, bringing his extensive experience and sporting connections to the Premier League giants. Ratcliffe is already involved in football ownership as the proprietor of French club OGC Nice, where they are performing well in Ligue 1 under the management of Francesco Farioli.
As Ratcliffe contemplates a potential entry into Manchester United’s ownership, speculation arises about the players he might target from Nice. One player of interest to United is French international Jean-Clair Todibo, who had a brief stint at Barcelona before joining Nice on a permanent deal. Todibo has formed a strong defensive partnership with Arsenal loanee William Saliba at the Allianz Riviera, establishing himself as a commanding center-back.
United had previously expressed interest in Todibo, particularly as an option in case of potential changes in their defensive lineup. The 90min report in August highlighted United’s monitoring of Todibo, although he ultimately stayed at Old Trafford amid uncertainties surrounding Harry Maguire.
Another noteworthy player at Nice is Khephren Thuram, the son of Lilian Thuram and younger brother of Marcus. Khephren Thuram, a distinctive and elegant box-to-box midfielder, has attracted attention from some of Europe’s top clubs.
While Manchester United currently boasts depth in midfield, Thuram could be on Ratcliffe’s radar if the need for another imposing midfielder arises.
