Erik ten Hag is closing in on a transfer deal for a Bayern Munich striker and a former Premier League player, aiming to bolster Manchester United’s attacking prowess. Talks are underway to secure the signing.

Manchester United is actively seeking to strengthen its underperforming forward line, identifying four Bundesliga strikers, including Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, formerly of Stoke City. Despite a previous stint in the Premier League with Stoke in 2018, where he scored against United in a 2-2 draw amid Stoke’s relegation, Choupo-Moting struggled to make a significant impact, only netting five times.

His subsequent success with PSG and Bayern Munich has caught the attention of United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, who aims to address the team’s scoring issues.

Rasmus Hojlund, United’s summer signing, has struggled in front of goal, scoring only once in the league. With only 22 goals, United ranks among the lowest-scoring teams, motivating them to explore the transfer market.

Choupo-Moting, with his contract expiring at the end of the season and limited playing time, presents a potential cut-price option. Standing at 6ft 2ins, the Cameroonian striker boasts a season-best goal tally of 17 in Germany.

The list of Bundesliga-based strikers shortlisted by United includes Thomas Muller, a Bayern Munich icon, Serhou Guirassy from Stuttgart, and Timo Werner of RB Leipzig, formerly with Chelsea. Choupo-Moting’s unique qualities in the final third make him an intriguing prospect for United.

Despite investing in Hojlund, ten Hag faces challenges as the Danish forward has struggled to find his form in the league. United’s goal-scoring woes extend beyond Hojlund, with Marcus Rashford experiencing a significant decline, managing only three goals after an impressive season. The surprising fact is that midfielder Scott McTominay leads the team in goals with five, highlighting the overall struggle of United’s forwards.

As Choupo-Moting’s contract situation offers a potential opportunity, United may pursue a deal to reinforce their attacking options. The decision to target Bundesliga strikers reflects the club’s commitment to addressing their scoring deficiencies and finding a suitable solution to bolster the team’s performance in the final third.
