Liverpool turned down a substantial offer of £150 million for the 31-year-old Mohamed Salah just before the closure of the Premier League transfer window on September 1st. Subsequent to this rejection, no further bids were submitted for the player before the closure of the Saudi Arabian transfer market six days later.
Michael Emenalo, the director of football for the Saudi Pro League, revealed that Salah’s transfer request remains open for consideration.
Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, expressed surprise at the situation, stating, “You are kidding me, yeah? A week after we have closed the transfer window, you make a request for information regarding the January transfer window. The fact that you cannot wait until December to ask these questions is something that should go without saying. For now, we will have to wait and see. At this moment, I am not concerned, at least not until that time comes.”
In Klopp’s pre-match comments ahead of Liverpool’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, he also addressed the situation of former captain Jordan Henderson, who moved to Al-Ettifaq in the summer. Henderson had earlier stated that he did not feel welcome at Liverpool.
Henderson, who had a successful tenure with Liverpool, making 492 appearances and winning major championships, left the club feeling that he wasn’t encouraged to stay. Klopp acknowledged Henderson’s contributions but revealed that discussions about his role were necessary.
“I told him that I wanted to talk about it now rather than wake up one morning and find us fighting because I told him that he wouldn’t be commencing when he thought he would. The phrase ‘he doesn’t want me here’ materialized in Hendo’s thoughts and ears as a result of that,” Klopp explained.
Despite expressing a desire for Henderson to stay, Klopp acknowledged that he was unable to articulate the situation accurately, and it was ultimately for the best that Henderson moved on. Klopp emphasized that there is no animosity between them.
The situation with Salah’s rejected offer and Henderson’s departure has added an element of uncertainty, but Klopp remains focused on the upcoming challenges with an optimistic outlook, emphasizing the need for patience and understanding in these matters.
The dynamics surrounding the team and potential developments in the upcoming transfer window will undoubtedly continue to be subjects of discussion in the coming weeks.
