Kalvin Phillips departed Manchester City this morning for a loan move to a European rival, featuring a buy clause set at £43 million.

Juventus has withdrawn from pursuing Kalvin Phillips due to potential high costs associated with a loan deal. Facing midfield shortages with Nicolo Fagioli and Paul Pogba serving separate bans, Juventus considered Phillips but lacked funds for a long-term deal. They plan to reintegrate Fagioli later in the year.

Manchester City is reportedly seeking a loan fee, possibly reaching £5 million, for Phillips in January, with an eye on a potential summer transfer. Juventus attempted negotiations with City to cover a significant portion of Phillips’ wages, but City is said to demand a mandatory £40 million fee for a prospective summer move.

Newcastle emerges as a primary contender for Phillips, considering Financial Fair Play restrictions during the current window. However, Newcastle’s willingness for a long-term commitment remains uncertain due to the expected return of Tonali next season.

Despite limited game time this season, Phillips is attracting interest from Crystal Palace and Fulham ahead of England’s Euro 2024 squad selection.

Wolves are likely to activate Tommy Doyle’s loan agreement buy-out clause following his goal against Brentford in the FA Cup. Having featured in 14 games this season, Doyle would cost Wolves £4.3 million.

Manchester City has been active in the transfer window, with notable arrivals including Jeremy Doku, Mateo Kovacic, Josko Gvardiol, and Matheus Nunes. Departures have seen Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez, Cole Palmer, and Ilkay Gundogan move to other clubs.
