Manchester City’s Kelvin De Bruyne has confirmed that his international teammate, valued at £70 million, is on the verge of joining Arsenal this week, following a verbal agreement with the club.

Arsenal is anticipated to make a substantial £60 million offer for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old, who joined Everton from Lille in June 2022 for £33 million, has become a key player under manager Sean Dyche, making 56 appearances with three goals and three assists, featuring prominently in the current season.

Onana’s contract with Everton extends until June 2027, but speculations link him with a potential high-value move to a European club. Manchester United is reportedly monitoring Onana’s situation, considering Everton’s potential need to sell key players to maintain financial stability and adhere to Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

Despite the interest from Manchester United, Arsenal is actively pursuing Onana, having approached Everton for discussions regarding a January transfer. Everton, however, has set a firm asking price of £60 million, signaling their intention to retain the midfielder during this transfer window.

Onana holds a crucial role in Dyche’s squad, especially as Everton grapples with a relegation battle following a 10-point deduction by the Premier League in November. Despite financial challenges, Everton is determined not to sell Onana this month, reinforcing his importance to the team.

Everton’s current record sale stands at £75 million, received from Romelu Lukaku’s transfer to Manchester United in 2017. The club’s reluctance to part ways with Onana underlines their commitment to retaining key players amid financial constraints.

While Arsenal is considering Onana as a potential midfield target, uncertainties surrounding the contract situations of Mohamed Elneny, Thomas Partey, Jorginho, and Emile Smith Rowe have prompted the Gunners to explore reinforcements. Onana’s versatility and performance have caught Arsenal’s attention, making him a prospect for midfield reinforcement.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal is willing to meet Everton’s £60 million valuation, especially after significant spending in the previous summer transfer window on players like Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber.

As the January transfer window unfolds, the dynamics of negotiations and Arsenal’s commitment to securing Onana’s services will determine the midfielder’s future in this pivotal period for both clubs.
