According to a recent report, David de Gea turned down an opportunity to join a Premier League club during the January transfer window.

The Spanish goalkeeper, who parted ways with Manchester United last summer after spending 12 years at the club, is currently without a team. Despite being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, De Gea has yet to finalize a transfer to the Middle East.

It was Nottingham Forest who made an attempt to secure the services of the experienced shot-stopper.

The Championship side tried to convince De Gea of the benefits of playing regular football for them until the end of the season. However, the 33-year-old declined their ‘short-term’ offer, preferring to explore other options.

In addition to approaching De Gea, Forest also inquired about the availability of Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal.

Ramsdale, who has lost his starting position to David Raya, was a target for Forest before they ultimately signed Matz Sels from Strasbourg.

The Belgian goalkeeper arrived at the City Ground in a deal worth £5.1 million, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract on deadline day.

With the addition of Sels, Forest now have a pool of goalkeepers including Matt Turner, Wayne Hennessey, and Odysseas Vlachodimos.

De Gea’s rejection of their offer leaves him still seeking a new club. Despite the closure of the transfer window, the Spaniard remains a free agent and is eligible to sign for a team outside of the transfer window period.

During his illustrious career at Manchester United, De Gea made 545 appearances in all competitions.

He played a key role in the club’s success, contributing to victories in the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Europa League. Additionally, he earned 45 caps for the Spanish national team.

As he continues his search for a new club, De Gea’s vast experience and proven track record make him an attractive prospect for potential suitors.
