Manchester United faces a major setback as Luke Shaw’s potential season-ending injury leaves them without a recognized left-back, impacting both manager Erik ten Hag and England coach Gareth Southgate ahead of Euro 2024.

Luke Shaw will be sidelined for the upcoming matches against Brazil and Belgium next month, dealing a significant blow to manager Ten Hag, who has already grappled with numerous injuries this season,

particularly in the defensive department. The absence of Shaw adds to the mounting challenges faced by Ten Hag, exacerbating an already injury-stricken squad.

In addition to Shaw’s absence, Lisandro Martinez will also be unavailable for approximately eight weeks due to a knee muscle injury.

This further compounds the defensive woes for Ten Hag, as Martinez’s absence leaves a void in the defensive lineup.

Replacing Shaw poses a considerable challenge for United, especially considering the lack of viable options in the left-back position.

Tyrell Malacia, the usual left-back choice, has been sidelined for the entire season due to knee surgery, with setbacks prolonging his rehabilitation process.

Furthermore, the premature termination of Sergio Reguilon’s loan from Tottenham by United last month has limited their defensive options.

Victor Lindelof and Sofyan Amrabat have struggled to adequately fill in for Shaw, leaving United with a significant defensive dilemma.

The severity of Shaw’s muscle injury requires further assessment, but United has indicated that he is expected to be sidelined for an extended period, possibly several months.

This setback compounds United’s existing injury concerns and presents a significant challenge for Ten Hag as he navigates through a demanding fixture schedule.
