Newcastle United is anticipated to hire a manager who has previously won the Premier League title to succeed Eddie Howe.

According to former Liverpool and Aston Villa player Stan Collymore, it’s only a matter of time before Jose Mourinho makes a return to the Premier League.

Mourinho, who has been without a job since his departure from Roma earlier this year, is currently available for a new managerial role.

Amid speculation surrounding the future of Newcastle’s Eddie Howe, Collymore suggests that Mourinho could potentially be a candidate to take over at St. James’ Park.

He points out that the Newcastle ownership, backed by Saudi Arabia, are driven by a desire for success and may not hesitate to replace Howe if results decline.

Collymore had previously tipped Julian Naglesmann for the Newcastle job, but with Naglesmann now managing the German national team, Mourinho emerges as a potential frontrunner.

He believes Mourinho would be attracted to the opportunity of managing a club as big as Newcastle and would be eager to return to the Premier League spotlight.

During Howe’s tenure at Newcastle, the team has achieved a decent average of 1.70 points per game. However, Mourinho’s superior track record, especially in European competitions, makes him an appealing option for the Magpies.

Collymore also highlights the influence of super agent Jorge Mendes in Mourinho’s potential next move. With Mendes as his agent and close ties to the Saudi ownership, it’s likely that Mourinho could end up at a club associated with Middle Eastern investment.

While there’s speculation that Mourinho could manage in the Pro League, there’s a strong possibility of him landing a managerial role in the northeast of England in the near future.
