This morning, Wayne Rooney has announced that he will be joining a Premier League powerhouse as their new manager, replacing the current manager who will be departing after the season ends.

Wayne Rooney, former Manchester United star, has expressed his ambition to secure the “dream job” of managing his former club, despite facing challenges in his coaching journey, including a recent dismissal from Birmingham City.

Rooney, celebrated for his prolific career at Old Trafford, where he amassed a record 253 goals over 13 years, has transitioned into coaching roles at Derby County and D.C. United before his brief stint at Birmingham.

Although he encountered difficulties, such as financial troubles at Derby and failing to lead D.C. United to the MLS postseason, Rooney remains resolute in his determination to ascend the managerial ranks.

Speaking as a pundit during BBC One’s coverage of United’s FA Cup victory over Nottingham Forest, Rooney revealed his aspiration to manage in the Premier League, ideally at Manchester United or Everton, within the next decade.

Despite his setback at Birmingham, Rooney remains undeterred, acknowledging that setbacks are a natural part of the managerial journey.

Reflecting on his tenure at Birmingham, where he managed only two wins out of 15 games before being sacked in January, Rooney attributed the lack of support from fans to the timing of his appointment.

Interestingly, few of Rooney’s former Manchester United teammates have pursued coaching careers, with Michael Carrick being a notable exception.

While some, like Robin van Persie, are in the process of obtaining coaching badges, others have transitioned into punditry roles.
