Terrible Thibaut Courtois news has been announced after new injury was confirmed in Real Madrid’s training session – Ancelotti confirms

Real Madrid encountered yet another setback today as Thibaut Courtois, who was inching closer to a return from his ACL injury, suffered a new knee injury.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper, who has been sidelined for the entire season so far, was anticipated to make his comeback by the end of the month following the international break.

However, during training earlier today, Courtois endured a torn meniscus in his right knee, forcing him to leave the pitch in a state of distress.

Initial concerns arose as Courtois reported feeling a ‘crack’ during training, hinting at a potentially severe injury. However, subsequent scans revealed that the damage was not as serious as initially feared.

Nonetheless, Mario Cortegana has disclosed that Courtois will undergo surgery to address the latest setback. Fortunately, the procedure is expected to be less complex compared to the one he underwent last year to mend his ACL rupture.

The forthcoming operation will primarily focus on cleaning the affected area rather than extensive repairs, as outlined in the report.

“A source close to the player stated that Courtois had his meniscus stitched in 2015, and the suture (row of stitches) has now ruptured,” as reported by The Athletic.

Further updates on Courtois’ condition are anticipated in the coming days, but it appears that his season is effectively concluded.

According to the report, the Belgian goalkeeper could face a recovery period of approximately seven weeks, potentially positioning him for a return by early May.

Real Madrid’s last La Liga fixture is scheduled for May 26, while the UEFA Champions League final is set to take place on June 1.

As a result, Real Madrid faces a critical decision regarding Courtois’ involvement in the final phase of the season, weighing the option of his potential return against prioritizing his recovery and readiness for the forthcoming campaign.
