Manchester United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe is considering swapping Andre Onana for a top-tier goalkeeper from La Liga.

Manchester United is reportedly eyeing a surprising move as they consider Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin as a potential replacement for Andre Onana, according to reports from Nacional.

It’s understood that Manchester United has already made an offer for Lunin as they gear up for the upcoming summer transfer window.

Lunin has showcased his talent during his time at Real Madrid this season, stepping up commendably in the absence of the injured Thibaut Courtois, who has been sidelined with an ACL injury.

Despite his impressive performances, Lunin recognizes that Courtois is likely to reclaim his spot as the first-choice goalkeeper upon his return, prompting him to contemplate a move elsewhere.

Manchester United’s interest in Lunin comes as they evaluate their options regarding their current top goalkeeper, Andre Onana, who has endured a disappointing debut season at the club.

Onana arrived at Manchester United last summer from Inter Milan for a significant fee, following a stellar performance with Inter Milan in the Champions League.

High expectations surrounded the 27-year-old goalkeeper, particularly after his standout displays in the Champions League, where he played a pivotal role in Inter Milan’s journey to the final.

Onana’s first season at Manchester United has been marred by errors, although he has shown signs of improvement in 2024.

He has faced criticism for several costly mistakes, particularly in Manchester United’s Champions League group stage matches against Galatasaray, Copenhagen, and Bayern Munich.

Reports from Germany indicate that Bayern Munich is interested in acquiring Onana as a long-term successor to their veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who is approaching the age of 38.

Meanwhile, Lunin’s contract with Real Madrid is set to expire in 2025, making him a viable option for Manchester United if they decide to pursue a transfer.

The potential signing of Lunin could provide Manchester United with a reliable goalkeeping option as they look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
