A third Premier League club has been penalized with a points deduction for failing to meet transfer payment obligations.

This week, Sheffield United became the third Premier League team to suffer three consecutive losses, resulting in a two-point deduction for the Yorkshire club in their next EFL match.

Currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League, Sheffield United faces a daunting nine-point gap from safety, making relegation increasingly likely this season.

Should they drop to the Championship, Sheffield United will begin the next season with a two-point deficit.

Additionally, the club will incur a further two-point deduction, though this penalty will only be applied at the conclusion of their subsequent EFL campaign.

An independent disciplinary panel imposed this punishment due to issues arising during the 2022–23 season, specifically Sheffield United’s failure to meet financial obligations to other clubs, amounting to over 550 days of unpaid dues.

While Sheffield United has agreed to settle £310,455 with the EFL, any default on future payments to other clubs for transfers or compensation deals exceeding five business days beyond the due date will result in further point deductions.
