Xavi expresses anger towards referee after FC Barcelona’s Champions League exit

Barcelona’s hopes of progressing in the Champions League were dashed as they were eliminated from the quarter-finals by PSG (4-6 aggregate), with the pivotal moment being Ronald Araujo’s red card during the second leg at Montjuïc.

Manager Xavi Hernández expressed his frustration with the referee’s decisions post-match, describing them as poor and disastrous.

Alongside Araujo, the club’s goalkeeping coach was also sent off, further compounding Barcelona’s woes.

Xavi emphasized that Araujo’s dismissal was a turning point in the tie, lamenting the referee’s role in disrupting their game plan.

Despite his reluctance to dwell on refereeing decisions, Xavi stressed the significance of addressing such issues, asserting that silence is not an option.

The manager bemoaned the impact of the red card, stating that it undermined their hard work throughout the season.

He expressed disappointment over the referee’s performance, indicating that it tainted their otherwise solid Champions League campaign.

Looking ahead, Xavi acknowledged the need to focus on controlling small details to avoid similar setbacks in the future.

He remained optimistic about Barcelona’s prospects, affirming their determination to bounce back and compete in the Champions League again next season.

When questioned about his own role in the team’s future endeavors, Xavi humbly redirected the focus to Barcelona as a collective entity, asserting that the club will continue striving for success regardless of individual contributions.
