A prominent Barcelona player is said to be considering a move away from Spain, with multiple Premier League clubs showing interest, as per the latest update from Fabrizio Romano regarding the star.

Manchester United is gearing up to present a formal proposal to secure the services of Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo if he opts to depart this summer, as per reports from Sport.

Araujo, the Uruguayan international, still has two years remaining on his contract with the Catalan club. While Barcelona is eager to extend his stay by an additional 24 months, financial constraints prevent them from offering a ‘top-level’ salary.

Several clubs are ready to double Araujo’s wages in the upcoming transfer window.

Despite rejecting United’s advances back in 2022 in favor of signing a new contract, reports from Sport (page 2) suggest that the Red Devils persist in their interest in acquiring him.

It’s been stated that United has already communicated to Araujo’s representatives their intention to present a formal offer if he expresses a desire to depart during the next transfer period.

However, United faces competition in their pursuit of Araujo, as Bayern Munich explored the prospect of securing the Uruguayan defender’s signature earlier this year.

Bayern is cognizant of Barcelona’s enduring interest in Joshua Kimmich and is willing to negotiate his departure on the condition that Araujo moves in the opposite direction.

Araujo is keen on resolving his club future before the commencement of the Copa America.

United’s prospects of securing Araujo hinge on the asking price. Currently, United is preparing for the departure of Raphael Varane on a free transfer.

The Frenchman, one of their highest earners, seems unlikely to extend his contract given his substantial weekly wage of £340,000.

Araujo is viewed as a quality replacement for Varane, boasting strong ball-playing skills and proficiency in aerial duels.

While Transfermarkt values the 25-year-old centre-back at £60 million, reports suggest that Barcelona is eyeing a fee closer to £80 million for his departure.

However, United’s inability to secure qualification for next season’s Champions League may hinder their ability to meet such lofty financial demands.

Furthermore, Bayern Munich’s interest adds another layer of complexity. A potential swap deal involving Kimmich could be more appealing to Barcelona, especially with manager Xavi prioritizing the acquisition of an elite defensive midfielder.

Thus, United faces challenges in orchestrating a summer deal for Araujo, particularly under the stewardship of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s newly controlled management. The club may be hesitant to overspend given the prevailing circumstances and stiff competition from other suitors.
