Pep Guardiola is set to depart from Manchester City at the end of the next season, with the club already preparing a four-man shortlist for his replacement. Guardiola, who has been instrumental in City’s success, led the team to their fourth consecutive Premier League title this season, adding to his impressive tally of six league medals since rejoining the Etihad in 2016.

The Daily Mail reports that Guardiola’s current contract expires in 12 months, and he is expected to step down after its completion. Although City’s management hopes he will continue, they are prepared for his potential departure.

Guardiola has guided City to 15 major trophies, including their first Champions League victory, and the club is allowing him the time to make a final decision regarding his future.

Despite this, City’s leadership is concerned that his ninth year with the club might be his last, although Guardiola has not given any formal indication of his plans.

In anticipation of his departure, Manchester City’s chiefs are closely monitoring four potential candidates to succeed the 53-year-old manager. The names being considered are Girona’s Michel, Julian Nagelsmann, Xabi Alonso, and Roberto De Zerbi.

Julian Nagelsmann, who is currently under contract until 2026, is set to manage Germany at Euro 2024. He brings significant experience, having previously managed Bayern Munich.

His tenure at Bayern Munich showcases his capability to lead top-tier teams, making him a strong candidate for the role at City.

Xabi Alonso, currently making waves at Bayer Leverkusen, is another candidate who has garnered attention. Alonso turned down the opportunity to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, indicating his current commitment and perhaps his interest in taking on a new challenge at City.

His managerial prowess and success at Leverkusen have made him a well-regarded figure in football management circles.

Roberto De Zerbi, who has earned Guardiola’s personal admiration, is also on the shortlist. De Zerbi left Brighton and is currently without a club, making him an available and potentially valuable asset for City. His tactical acumen and innovative approach to the game have impressed many, including Guardiola himself.

Lastly, Michel, who manages Girona, is another option being considered. His work with Girona has not gone unnoticed, and he is seen as a viable candidate to take over the reins at City.

As Guardiola prepares for what could be his final season with Manchester City, the club is meticulously planning for the future. The selection of a new manager is crucial, and the club is weighing its options carefully to ensure continued success.

The departure of Guardiola, one of the most successful managers in City’s history, will mark the end of an era.

However, with a robust shortlist of potential successors, the club aims to maintain its position at the pinnacle of English and European football.
