Ancelotti has reportedly decided to exclude Real Madrid’s top player from the starting XI for the upcoming Real Madrid vs. Atlanta Super Cup match.

Real Madrid midfielder Fede Valverde is often seen as one of Carlo Ancelotti’s most dependable players, but their relationship hasn’t always been smooth.

The Uruguayan recently revealed his frustration with being deployed out on the right side of the midfield, a position he frequently occupied during the 2021-22 season. Despite being a central midfielder by trade, Valverde found himself regularly shifted to the right, and this positional change wasn’t something he initially welcomed.

Throughout much of the 2021-22 campaign, Valverde’s role on the right became a staple of Ancelotti’s strategy. However, his deployment wasn’t confined to this position alone; Valverde was also moved around the central midfield area on various occasions.

This versatility, while useful for the team, was a source of personal discontent for the player who felt more comfortable and effective playing centrally.

In the current season, Valverde has experienced a mix of responsibilities. He still featured on the right side at times but also returned to his preferred central midfield role alongside Toni Kroos, where he demonstrated some of his best performances.

This adjustment allowed him to showcase his true potential, combining defensive solidity with offensive contributions, which included his trademark lung-busting runs from deep.

During an international break, Valverde spoke candidly about his fluctuating positions on the pitch. He shared insights into how his perspective evolved over time under Ancelotti’s guidance. “I have learned to really value playing wherever they want me to play,” Valverde admitted. “When I started my time with Ancelotti, I had that anger of… why do I have to change my position? But then I learned to value what the coach asks of you and to know how to mature in different parts of the game.”

Valverde emphasized the importance of understanding and embracing the coach’s decisions, highlighting the maturity required to adapt and excel in various roles for the betterment of the team. “If the coach asks you to help out in another position, you have to value it, understand it, and get the most out of it for the good of the team,” he explained.

This shift in mindset reflects Valverde’s growing maturity and his commitment to the team’s success, regardless of his personal preferences.

Reflecting on the challenges and opportunities of playing under Ancelotti, Valverde acknowledged the high stakes and immense pressure that come with representing Real Madrid. “Playing for Real Madrid is not easy, you have to hold on and never let go of that opportunity,” he noted, recognizing the privilege and responsibility that accompany playing for one of the world’s most prestigious clubs.

Looking ahead, with the departure of Toni Kroos and the anticipated arrival of Kylian Mbappe, Valverde sees an opportunity to solidify his place in the central midfield once again.

He is optimistic about returning to his traditional deeper role, where he believes he can make a significant impact. Nevertheless, his ability to play further forward has undoubtedly added new dimensions to his game, making him a more versatile and valuable asset for Real Madrid.

Valverde’s journey under Ancelotti underscores the importance of adaptability and resilience in professional football.

His willingness to embrace different roles and his determination to excel wherever he is needed demonstrate his dedication to the team’s success. As Real Madrid continues to evolve, Valverde’s versatility and growth as a player will likely play a crucial role in their pursuit of future triumphs.
