Erik ten Hag has announced his departure from Manchester United to join a rival club.

Manchester United are aiming to finalize a new contract for manager Erik ten Hag before their pre-season tour of the United States, set to begin in the second half of July.

Following a comprehensive post-season review by the club’s new sporting hierarchy, it was decided that Ten Hag remains the best choice to lead the team forward, despite earlier speculation that the Dutchman might be sacked two years into his three-year contract.

As part of their commitment to Ten Hag, Manchester United are working to secure a new deal for him. According to The Times, discussions regarding this proposed contract are progressing well, with both parties eager to reach an agreement swiftly, potentially before the team departs for America. This suggests that the new contract could be finalized within the next three to four weeks.

United’s pre-season schedule begins with matches close to home, including a game against Rosenborg in Norway on 15 July and another against Rangers in Edinburgh five days later. The team will then head to the United States, where they are scheduled to play Arsenal in Los Angeles on 27 July, followed by games against Real Betis and Liverpool in San Diego and South Carolina, respectively.

In addition to finalizing Ten Hag’s contract, there are plans to potentially bolster his coaching team. One notable possibility is the return of legendary former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy to Old Trafford.

Van Nistelrooy, who scored 150 goals in five seasons with Manchester United, has been seeking a return to coaching after leaving PSV Eindhoven last year. While he had talks with Burnley about replacing Vincent Kompany, those discussions have not advanced significantly.

The potential reshuffling of the coaching staff might also result in the departure of Benni McCarthy. This shakeup comes as part of the club’s broader strategy to support Ten Hag and ensure the team is well-prepared for the upcoming season.

Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s partial takeover of Manchester United, the club has maintained stability in its managerial appointments.

This includes extending the contract of women’s team manager Marc Skinner in May, following an agreement reached earlier.

However, Ratcliffe has faced criticism recently for admitting that the INEOS contingent has not yet developed detailed plans for the women’s side of the club, as they have prioritized the men’s team.

As Manchester United looks to secure Ten Hag’s future with a new contract and potentially enhance the coaching staff, the club aims to build on the progress made last season and prepare effectively for the challenges ahead.

The forthcoming pre-season tour and the potential return of Van Nistelrooy highlight the club’s commitment to supporting Ten Hag and achieving success in the upcoming campaign.
