Liverpool are planning to make a significant move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, involving a player plus cash deal.

According to a report by Teamtalk, the Reds are preparing to offer £50 million along with their goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to secure the services of the English winger.

Under the management of Arne Slot, Liverpool is gearing up for an active summer transfer window. The club is set to provide Slot with substantial backing as he aims to overhaul the squad and strengthen various positions, particularly in attack and defense.

Anthony Gordon has emerged as a key target for Liverpool. The winger has caught the eye of the Reds’ management, especially given Newcastle’s need to sell players to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

The Magpies have already made moves to address financial regulations, such as agreeing to let Yankuba Minteh transfer to Brighton. Selling Gordon could be another strategic move to raise funds.

Gordon is currently on international duty with the England national team at the Euros. His performance in the Premier League last season was impressive, contributing to 21 goals with 11 goals scored and 10 assists provided. His form has impressed England manager Gareth Southgate, increasing his profile and desirability as a transfer target.

Despite his previous ties with Everton, Gordon is reportedly open to the idea of joining Liverpool. The Reds are preparing a substantial offer to Newcastle, valuing Kelleher between £25 million and £35 million. This would mean that, alongside the £50 million in cash, the total deal could cost Liverpool around £75 million to £85 million.

Liverpool’s interest in Gordon is driven by their need to reinforce their attacking options, and his potential arrival would add significant depth and quality to their squad. However, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is keen to retain the pacey winger.

Gordon’s departure would be a significant loss, but the inclusion of Kelleher in the deal could address another of Newcastle’s needs—a new goalkeeper to provide competition for Nick Pope.

Newcastle would find it difficult to lose a player of Gordon’s caliber, but the deal’s financial benefits and the acquisition of Kelleher might make it a compelling option.

The goalkeeper position has been a point of concern for Newcastle, and Kelleher’s inclusion could be seen as a strategic addition, providing depth and quality to their squad.
