Manchester City has officially announced a surprising replacement for Julian Alvarez this morning.

Manchester City is reportedly considering a move for Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi as they search for a replacement for Julian Alvarez.

The Cityzens, who are on the brink of pursuing a historic fifth consecutive Premier League title, have had a relatively quiet summer transfer window so far. However, they are expected to be very active in the final days before the transfer deadline.

One of the major developments in City’s transfer plans involves Ilkay Gundogan, who is close to making a sensational return to Manchester City on a free transfer from Barcelona, just a year after leaving the club for Catalonia.

Once the Gundogan deal is finalized, City’s attention could then shift to bringing in a new forward to bolster their attacking options.

According to a report from The Athletic, Manchester City has shown interest in Celtic’s prolific striker, Kyogo Furuhashi, as well as a younger, unnamed player, as potential replacements for Julian Alvarez, who has moved to Atletico Madrid.

Kyogo, who will turn 30 later this season, is seen as the more experienced option among the two players on City’s radar. However, the club plans to focus on securing Gundogan’s return before making any final decisions on a new forward.

The need for a new attacking player has become more urgent for City following the loss of Oscar Bobb, who suffered a fractured leg after the sale of Alvarez. If City ultimately decides to pursue Kyogo Furuhashi, it is believed that the Japan international would be open to a move to the Etihad Stadium.

Kyogo joined Celtic in 2021 when the club was managed by Ange Postecoglou, who had spent three years working in Japan and used his knowledge of the Asian football market to Celtic’s advantage.

During his time at Celtic, Kyogo has been a key player, scoring 73 goals in 135 matches and helping the club secure seven trophies.

When Postecoglou left Celtic for Tottenham Hotspur last summer, there were reports that Kyogo could follow his former manager to Spurs.

However, a move to Tottenham did not materialize, and Kyogo remained at Celtic. Now, with Manchester City reportedly considering him as a potential signing, Kyogo could have the opportunity to make a high-profile move to the Premier League.

If the deal goes through, Kyogo’s experience and goal-scoring ability could provide Manchester City with the attacking reinforcement they need as they aim to maintain their dominance in the Premier League and compete for other major trophies this season.
