Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez remains fully committed to the club, despite rumors surrounding a possible transfer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. In his statement for CaughtOffside’s Daily Briefing column,
Romano addressed recent speculation linking Nunez with a move to Atletico Madrid. He also dismissed the possibility of Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Goes being considered as a replacement for the Uruguayan forward at Anfield.
Nunez has experienced a mixed spell at Liverpool, facing criticism from fans who have expressed disappointment with his lack of progress and inconsistent performances. This criticism has contributed to Nunez falling down the pecking order, especially since the arrival of Arne Slot as Liverpool’s new manager.
However, despite this, Nunez remains determined to prove his worth and continue contributing to the team, making a potential move to Atletico Madrid unlikely.
Romano was quick to downplay the ongoing transfer rumors, emphasizing that there is no truth to the speculation. In his comments, Romano stated, “It’s hard to even comment on the Rodrygo and Darwin Nunez rumors.
Nunez to Atletico, Rodrygo to Liverpool… trust me, there’s nothing happening.” He further elaborated that Nunez is focused on Liverpool, and Atletico Madrid is unlikely to pursue him, especially after they recently invested €75 million, plus add-ons, to sign Julian Alvarez from Manchester City.
Likewise, Rodrygo is not a target for Liverpool as he only recently extended his contract with Real Madrid less than a year ago and remains focused on his future with the Spanish club.
Although some Liverpool supporters may believe that Rodrygo would be an upgrade over Nunez, Romano’s comments suggest that no such transfer is in the works. The journalist made it clear that both players are committed to their current clubs, and the rumors circulating about possible moves are baseless at this point.
Despite this reassurance, concerns about Nunez’s performance at Liverpool remain. While he appears to be focused on improving and contributing to the team, the pressure is mounting, and the club may eventually have to explore alternative options if the striker does not meet expectations.
