Los Blancos are making bold moves, but Arsenal won’t let this star go without a fight. This could shake up the Gunners’ season

Arsenal have faced numerous injury setbacks this season, with Bukayo Saka being one of the most prominent absentees. However, an even more crucial player they cannot afford to lose is William Saliba.

The French centre-back has been a key figure for the Gunners since breaking into the first team during the 2022/23 season following several loan spells. His presence has been transformative for Arsenal’s defense, making him an indispensable part of Mikel Arteta’s plans.

The impact of Saliba’s absence is starkly evident in Arsenal’s defensive stats. When the Frenchman is in the lineup, the team concedes less than one goal per game on average. However, in his absence, that number nearly doubles, showing just how vital he is to the team’s structure and solidity at the back.

This difference became painfully clear in Arsenal’s recent 2-2 draw at home against Aston Villa, where the defense conceded two sloppy goals after taking an early 2-0 lead. That dropped result could have significant implications for Arsenal’s title hopes, especially with Liverpool securing a late victory against Brentford.

Saliba’s importance is further highlighted by the struggles of Arsenal’s other defensive options. While Gabriel Magalhães remains a world-class center-back, it is his partnership with Saliba that gives Arsenal defensive stability. Alternatives like Jurrien Timber and Jakub Kiwior, though talented, have not yet matched the level of the Saliba-Gabriel pairing. With Saliba sidelined, Arteta faces a significant challenge in maintaining Arsenal’s defensive standards.

To compound Arsenal’s woes, other key players have also been struggling with injuries. Martin Ødegaard, the team’s captain, has missed significant game time this season and has not been at his best since returning. Gabriel Jesus appears to be out for the rest of the campaign, while Ben White has also been unavailable for large stretches. These injuries have left Arsenal relying on a depleted squad in their pursuit of silverware.

As things stand, Saliba’s injury status remains unclear. Arsenal will be hoping for positive news as his return could be pivotal in reigniting their season.

However, if this injury turns out to be another long-term issue, it could have devastating consequences for Arsenal’s campaign. A swift return for Saliba could be the boost Arteta and his side desperately need to keep their title ambitions alive.
