Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to open formal talks with Crystal Palace over the signing of attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on X, confirming Spurs’ intention to move forward after weeks of speculation about Eze’s future. While Arsenal also remain interested in the England international, reports suggest Tottenham are now stepping up their pursuit.
Romano stated: “Tottenham are prepared to open formal talks with Crystal Palace for Eberechi Eze. The plan to return to the table reported two days ago is 100% confirmed… and Eze would be keen on the move to #THFC if the two clubs can agree on a fee.”
Eze could be tempted by Tottenham due to the prospect of playing in the Champions League and potentially enjoying more regular starting opportunities than he might get at Arsenal.
For Arsenal, competition on the left wing already includes Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, and new signing Noni Madueke, while in the central attacking role, captain Martin Ødegaard remains firmly established. This makes it difficult to see Eze as an automatic starter at the Emirates.
From that perspective, a switch to Spurs might make more sense for the 27-year-old. However, Arsenal could regret missing out, as Eze’s creativity and flair could provide the spark needed to win tight matches.
Gunners fans will be hoping the club has a backup plan if Tottenham win the race for his signature — something that now looks increasingly likely.
