Several months after the winger completed his move to Chelsea, Manchester United made the dramatic decision to part ways with Ruben Amorim, a development that followed a series of controversial public remarks by the coach which reportedly exposed deeper tensions within the club’s internal structure.
According to the Manchester Evening News, those comments played a significant role in accelerating United’s decision to act.
In a formal statement released by the club, Manchester United confirmed Amorim’s departure and outlined the reasoning behind it. “Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United,” the statement read.
“Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and successfully led the team to the UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.” While acknowledging that achievement, the club emphasized that league performance had ultimately forced their hand.
With United sitting sixth in the Premier League standings at the time of the announcement, the club’s leadership explained that a change was necessary to maximize their chances of finishing the season as strongly as possible.
“After careful consideration, the club believes this is the right moment to make a change in order to give the team the best possible opportunity to secure the highest achievable league position,” the statement continued.

In the interim, Darren Fletcher was named as the man to take charge of the squad, starting with the upcoming midweek fixture against Burnley.
