Manchester United’s transfer strategy has reportedly taken a dramatic and decisive shift, with fresh reports suggesting the club have moved swiftly to secure a major signing ahead of their rivals.
According to emerging claims, United have successfully hijacked a deal that had strongly interested Chelsea, with a highly rated £50m playmaker arriving at Carrington for a medical after agreeing to a five-year contract late last night.
If confirmed, the move would underline United’s renewed intent in the market and signal a more aggressive approach under the current leadership.
At the same time, United’s wider recruitment plans continue to gather momentum, particularly in midfield. Reports from Spain indicate that the club remain firmly in pursuit of Al-Hilal star Ruben Neves, as preparations for a significant midfield overhaul accelerate.
This comes at a time when United appear to be rediscovering their identity on the pitch, following one of their most dominant performances in recent memory.
Midfield Rebuild Takes Shape
Manchester United stunned fans and pundits alike over the weekend with a commanding display against Manchester City at Old Trafford.
Despite having just three days to prepare following his appointment, caretaker manager Michael Carrick made several bold decisions in both team selection and tactical setup — decisions that paid off emphatically. United ran out 2-0 winners, but the scoreline barely reflected their dominance.
On another day, the Red Devils could easily have scored four or five goals, while goalkeeper Senne Lammens was largely untested at the other end.
Carrick’s decision to abandon Ruben Amorim’s long-standing 3-4-2-1 system in favour of a more traditional 4-2-3-1 brought immediate balance and clarity.

Accelerating the Neves Pursuit
United have long planned to reinforce their midfield in the summer, especially with Casemiro’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, despite reports of a clause that could complicate his exit. Now, though, the club appear ready to fast-track those plans.
According to Fichajes, United have submitted a formal bid worth close to €23 million to Al-Hilal for Ruben Neves, who emerged as a priority target last month.
With Neves’ contract due to expire in June, this represents Al-Hilal’s final opportunity to secure a transfer fee for the Portuguese international.
Despite being eight points clear at the top of the Saudi Pro League and unbeaten after 15 matches, the club are reportedly open to the sale, believing they can still secure the title without him. The Spanish outlet claims Al-Hilal are seriously considering United’s offer due to its financial appeal.
From United’s standpoint, Neves represents outstanding value. At 28, he is entering his prime, boasts vast Premier League experience from his time at Wolves, and fits perfectly into a position of immediate need.
A €23m fee is seen as reasonable for a January signing and, crucially, would not significantly impact the club’s summer transfer budget.
If both the hijacked £50m deal and the Neves pursuit are completed, it would mark a clear statement of intent from Manchester United one that signals a decisive midfield rebuild is already well underway.
