Manchester United FC are reportedly close to finalizing their first departure of the Michael Carrick era, with goalkeeper Altay Bayindir set to complete a move back to Turkey.
Despite showing flashes of promise and briefly reestablishing himself in contention under Carrick, the 27-year-old now appears destined to leave Old Trafford after the club agreed terms with Beşiktaş JK ahead of the summer transfer window.
Bayindir made the switch to United from Fenerbahçe SK in 2023 and has since accumulated 17 appearances across all competitions for the English giants.
During his first full campaign, he featured ten times and entered the 2025/26 season as the club’s starting goalkeeper.
In fact, he began the current Premier League season as first choice, starting United’s opening six league fixtures.
However, his position came under threat following the arrival of Senne Lammens, who joined from Royal Antwerp FC last summer and quickly impressed enough to secure a regular place in the lineup.
Although Bayindir remains under contract until June 2027 — with an additional one-year option included — it seems both player and club are ready to part ways earlier than anticipated.
Reports from Turkey indicate that Beşiktaş have reached an agreement worth approximately £4.4 million, paving the way for Bayindir’s return to his homeland once the transfer window opens officially.
The goalkeeper carries considerable experience from his time in the Turkish Super Lig. Before leaving for England, he made 145 appearances for Fenerbahçe and also represented MKE Ankaragücü, totaling 133 top-flight outings in Turkey.
His consistent performances there earned him recognition as one of the league’s more reliable goalkeepers, which ultimately led to his move to Manchester United.
His exit would inevitably raise questions about United’s goalkeeping depth heading into next season. Andre Onana is expected to return from his loan spell at Trabzonspor, with ambitions of reclaiming the number one position.
Nevertheless, speculation persists that Onana himself could depart permanently, potentially prompting United to enter the market for another goalkeeper to compete with Lammens.
There is also internal optimism surrounding Radek Vitek, who has impressed during his loan stint at Bristol City FC. The 22-year-old is pushing for senior involvement and could benefit from the reshuffling between the posts.
Ultimately, Bayindir’s impending move marks another step in Carrick’s ongoing squad reshaping, as Manchester United continue refining their options in every department.
