    Manchester United

He committed unnecessary errors that cost us a lot, and that kind of nonsense is something I will not accept anymore

The strong momentum that initially surrounded Michael Carrick since taking temporary charge of Manchester United appears to have suffered a sudden setback.

Just days after his name appeared among the nominees for the Premier League’s Manager of the Month award, the interim coach experienced his first loss in charge of the team. His reaction following the defeat suggested that he was deeply frustrated with what he witnessed on the pitch.

The disappointing result came during United’s visit to Newcastle United at St James’ Park. After the final whistle, Carrick reportedly did not hold back when addressing the media, offering a blunt evaluation of his side’s performance.

Much of his criticism appeared to be aimed at summer signing Bryan Mbeumo, whose struggles during the match were viewed as a key factor in bringing United’s impressive unbeaten run to an end.

The encounter initially seemed to be turning in Manchester United’s favour when Newcastle midfielder Jacob Ramsey was shown a red card, leaving the home side with ten players for the entire second half.

With a numerical advantage and plenty of time remaining, many expected United to dominate proceedings and secure a positive result. Instead, the visitors failed to make the extra player count.

Despite controlling possession for large spells, United struggled to break down Newcastle’s disciplined defensive structure.

Their inability to convert promising chances proved costly, and the home crowd was eventually rewarded with a dramatic moment late in the game.

In the 90th minute, Newcastle forward William Osula produced an impressive individual effort, weaving through defenders before firing the ball into the net to secure a thrilling 2–1 victory for the hosts.

While fans were left stunned by the late twist, Carrick’s post-match comments focused largely on the shortcomings of his own team. In particular, he reportedly expressed disappointment with the performance of Mbeumo.

According to reports, the United manager admitted that he regretted starting the winger and suggested that mistakes made by the attacker had disrupted the team’s overall rhythm.

Mbeumo’s evening proved especially frustrating. During the first half, he squandered a golden opportunity when he blasted the ball over the crossbar from close range despite having the goal at his mercy.

Later in the match, midfielder Casemiro was seen dropping to his knees in disbelief after Mbeumo failed to convert another clear chance created by captain Bruno Fernandes.

The winger struggled to make a significant impact throughout the match and was eventually replaced in the 70th minute by Joshua Zirkzee after contributing very little compared with several of his teammates.

Carrick’s remarks also hinted at a noticeable shift in management style compared with former coach Ruben Amorim.

By referencing his predecessor, Carrick seemed to signal that a more demanding and uncompromising approach would now define his leadership.

He emphasized that players who fail to meet the required level of performance will risk losing their positions in the team.

The defeat leaves Manchester United sitting third in the Premier League standings, increasing the pressure on the squad as the competition for the title intensifies.

With little room for further slip-ups, attention now turns to their upcoming clash in the FA Cup.

That match could present Mbeumo with an opportunity to respond to the criticism and prove his value to the team—if Carrick chooses to give him another chance in the starting lineup.
