This opened the door for Michael Carrick to step in as caretaker manager. Since taking charge, Carrick has impressed many with his calm leadership and tactical approach.
Under his guidance, the team has shown signs of revival, winning seven of his first ten matches and climbing to third place in the league table.
His style of play has also been praised, with the team displaying more attacking intent and cohesion.

Club legend Wayne Rooney has been particularly vocal on the issue. Having previously suggested that Carrick deserves the job if he secures Champions League qualification, Rooney has now doubled down on his stance.

Rooney emphasized that the players now look more united, confident, and technically sharp under Carrick’s leadership. He believes the team has regained its identity and is performing with greater purpose.
Given these improvements and Carrick’s impressive win rate, Rooney questioned the logic behind looking elsewhere for a new manager.
In his view, continuity could be the key to success, and Carrick has already proven he has what it takes to lead Manchester United forward.
With the season nearing its end, the pressure is now on INEOS to make the right call—one that could define the club’s future for years to come.
