The latest FIFA men’s world rankings have been released, revealing England’s current standing. Despite recent developments and changes within the team, including the appointment of a new head coach, the Three Lions have remained unmoved in the rankings.
England recently unveiled Thomas Tuchel as their new permanent manager. Tuchel, a well-known figure in world football, has previously managed top clubs like Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Borussia Dortmund.
Speaking in his first press conference as England’s head coach, Tuchel acknowledged the significance of his new role. “I understood very quickly that it is a big job. I think the job you’re in is always the biggest job, and it doesn’t make sense to compare, but it feels big, and it feels like a privilege,” he said.
Tuchel, known for his passion and enthusiasm for football, further expressed his excitement about leading England. He explained, “I think it’s pretty obvious I am very emotional. I love what I am doing, and I am passionate about football.
This role has reignited the young me and brought back memories of my teenage days when I was just a fan excited about football. It’s a huge task, but one I am thrilled to take on.”
Tuchel also assured fans that under his leadership, England would approach every match with dedication and heart, saying, “Everyone can be assured we will do it with passion and emotion. We will try to instill values, principles, and rules as quickly as possible to make the dream come true.”
In their most recent international fixtures, England experienced a mixed set of results. They lost to Greece before bouncing back with a win against Finland during their UEFA Nations League matches. Despite these performances, the new FIFA rankings show that England remains in fourth place, trailing behind Spain,
France, and the reigning world champions, Argentina. Brazil, Belgium, Portugal, the Netherlands, Italy, and Colombia round out the top 10 teams in the rankings, with Germany just outside in 11th place.
In terms of movement within the rankings, Comoros emerged as the biggest climber, jumping 10 places to 108th in the world. On the other hand, Tunisia experienced the steepest fall, dropping 11 places to 47th. Botswana gained the most points, with an additional 38.3 to their tally, while Cape Verde lost the most, also dropping 38.3 points.
Looking ahead, England will be back in action next month with crucial UEFA Nations League fixtures against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
These will be interim manager Lee Carsley’s final games in charge, with Tuchel officially taking over in January 2025. England’s new head coach will begin preparing for his first competitive matches in March’s international break, as the team aims to build on their current FIFA ranking and make strides toward future success.
