Reports circulating online suggest Pep Guardiola is furious after learning that Manchester United have allegedly agreed personal terms with a player who was also a top transfer target for Manchester City

Manchester United have reportedly encountered an early obstacle in their efforts to reinforce the midfield ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

One of the players who had been linked with a potential move to Old Trafford has now reached an agreement that effectively rules out a transfer, dealing a setback to the club’s recruitment plans.

As the current season approaches its conclusion, it is widely expected that Manchester United will look to make significant adjustments to their midfield department.

Several changes could occur within the squad, as the club aims to reshape the team and build a stronger foundation for the future.

Reports suggest that Casemiro could be on the verge of leaving the club, with indications that he may depart on a free transfer.

Meanwhile, Manuel Ugarte has also been linked with a possible exit, with speculation suggesting that the midfielder could move to Serie A, where several Italian clubs are believed to be monitoring his situation.

In anticipation of potential departures, United’s recruitment team has been actively identifying players who could strengthen the middle of the pitch.

Among the names reportedly near the top of their shortlist are Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson, and Carlos Baleba.

Each of these midfielders has attracted attention through impressive performances and continued development in recent seasons.

However, securing the services of any of those players may prove difficult. There is growing speculation that Manchester City could attempt to move ahead of United in the race to sign Anderson.

At the same time, both Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion are expected to demand significant transfer fees for Wharton and Baleba, respectively. These factors could complicate negotiations and force United to explore other possibilities.

Because of these challenges, the club has also been assessing several alternative midfield targets who could potentially strengthen the squad. Among those additional options are Sandro Tonali, Angelo Stiller, and Felix Nmecha.

Unfortunately for Manchester United, one of those alternatives now appears to be unavailable.

According to recent reports from Borussia Dortmund, Nmecha has agreed to extend his stay with the Bundesliga side, effectively removing him from the transfer market for the foreseeable future.

Earlier in the year, there had been speculation that the German international might leave the club, particularly after negotiations regarding a new contract appeared to stall.

At one stage, the German publication BILD even suggested that Dortmund could consider offers in the region of €70 million if the right proposal arrived during the upcoming transfer window.

Instead of selling the midfielder, Dortmund’s leadership reportedly made a determined effort to convince him to remain with the club.

Sporting director Sebastian Kehl is said to have played a key role in the discussions aimed at securing Nmecha’s long-term future.

Those efforts appear to have been successful. Reports indicate that the midfielder has now agreed to a new contract that will keep him at Borussia Dortmund until 2030.

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg from Sky Germany, negotiations recently reached a breakthrough that paved the way for the extension to be finalized.

Fellow reporter Patrick Berger also confirmed the development, adding that the new agreement will make Nmecha one of Dortmund’s highest-paid players.

For Borussia Dortmund, the deal is being viewed as a major success. Despite attracting interest from several top clubs, including teams in the Premier League, they have managed to secure the long-term commitment of one of their key midfield players.

While the possibility of a future transfer cannot be completely ruled out, the new contract makes it highly unlikely that Nmecha will leave the German club this summer.

As a result, Manchester United will likely turn their attention back to other potential midfield signings as they continue preparing for what is expected to be a very active transfer window.
