Patrice Evra has blasted a struggling player following Manchester United’s disappointing performance

In the aftermath of Manchester United’s dramatic 2–2 draw with AFC Bournemouth, much of the attention has been focused on controversial refereeing decisions.

However, former United defender Patrice Evra has chosen to take a different perspective, calling for greater accountability from the players rather than placing all the blame on officiating.

While manager Michael Carrick and others expressed frustration with certain calls made during the match, Evra made it clear that the team should not use those moments as excuses.

He acknowledged that the refereeing may not have been flawless, but insisted it was not the decisive factor in the outcome.

In his view, the bigger issue lies in the team’s own inability to capitalize on their periods of control, particularly in the first half.

Evra pointed out that Manchester United had large spells of dominance early in the game, dictating play and showing signs of control.

However, despite that advantage, they failed to translate possession into meaningful opportunities or goals.

This lack of cutting edge, he suggested, is something the team must address if they are serious about competing at the highest level.

Without directly naming any individual, Evra hinted that one player in particular has been underperforming in recent matches.

Drawing on his experience as a former professional, he admitted that he does not enjoy criticizing players publicly.

Nevertheless, he emphasized that the dip in form has been noticeable over a sustained period and is becoming increasingly difficult to overlook.

Even with the drama surrounding key incidents—such as the penalty appeal involving Amad Diallo and the red card shown to Harry Maguire—Evra maintained that these moments should not distract from the underlying issues within the squad.

Manchester United managed to take the lead twice during the match, including a well-taken penalty by Bruno Fernandes, yet they were unable to hold on and secure the win.

What makes Evra’s comments particularly noteworthy is his usual role as a passionate supporter of the club. On this occasion, however, he prioritized honesty, stressing that confronting uncomfortable truths is necessary for improvement.

His message suggests that progress cannot be made without acknowledging weaknesses within the team.

His remarks have sparked mixed reactions among supporters. Some fans agree with his assessment, believing that certain players have not been consistent enough and must raise their performance levels.

Others, however, feel the criticism may be too harsh, especially considering the unpredictable and chaotic nature of the match.

As Manchester United continue their push in a tightly contested league race, results like this remain frustrating.

Evra’s central argument is clear: while refereeing decisions can influence outcomes, true progress depends on players taking responsibility and delivering when it matters most.
