The decision quickly became a major talking point after the match, with several analysts and former officials expressing surprise that the challenge was not penalized.
Among them, former Premier League referee Keith Hackett publicly stated that he found it difficult to understand why such a clear-looking infringement was not given.
In contrast, Bournemouth were later awarded a penalty of their own after a challenge involving Harry Maguire on Evanilson inside the box.
Hackett supported this decision, noting that Maguire made no real attempt to play the ball and that the foul justified both the penalty and the red card he received for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.
However, he also raised concerns about consistency, questioning why VAR did not intervene in the earlier incident involving Diallo, especially since both situations appeared to involve similar types of holding or physical contact.
