A major move could be unfolding at Manchester United as reports claim an agent has arrived in London for a closed-door meeting with Jim Ratcliffe

JUST IN: A fresh development has emerged involving Sir Jim Ratcliffe, as reports indicate that an agent has arrived in London for a private, behind-closed-doors meeting with the Manchester United co-owner.

The discussion is believed to be linked to what could become the club’s first completed signing of the upcoming summer transfer window, signaling early intent from Manchester United to strengthen their squad.

At the same time, attention has turned toward Werder Bremen’s highly rated young defender, Karim Coulibaly, who has reportedly attracted interest from several top European clubs.

According to sources in Germany, United are among those keeping a close eye on the 18-year-old centre-back as they evaluate defensive reinforcements ahead of next season.

While the club recently secured the future of Harry Maguire through a contract extension running until next year—with an additional option—the possibility of bringing in another defender remains very much on the table.

The interest in Coulibaly appears to be part of a broader strategy to add balance and depth to the defensive unit.

Specifically, the club is believed to be targeting a naturally left-footed centre-back who can either compete with or provide cover for Lisandro Martínez.

Although young talent Ayden Heaven showed promise earlier in the season, his limited involvement under interim manager Michael Carrick has raised questions about his immediate role in the squad going forward.

Coulibaly, who is expected to leave Werder Bremen this summer, has quickly built a reputation as one of the most promising young defenders in the Bundesliga.

Since making his senior debut last year, he has already accumulated over 20 appearances, demonstrating composure and consistency beyond his age.

His profile as a left-sided centre-back with strong technical ability, combined with his physical presence, makes him an appealing option for clubs looking to invest in future defensive stability.

However, Manchester United are not alone in the race. Chelsea FC are said to be further along in negotiations, having already initiated contact with the player’s representatives regarding a potential move.

This could force United to act decisively if they wish to secure his signature.

From a financial standpoint, Werder Bremen have reportedly placed a valuation between £35 million and £44 million on the teenager.

While this figure reflects his potential, there is a sense that United may attempt to negotiate a lower fee, possibly in the region of £25 million, given his limited experience at the senior level.

Statistically, Coulibaly has impressed with solid defensive metrics, including a high pass completion rate and consistent contributions in clearances and recoveries.

His aerial ability and physical attributes suggest he could adapt well to the demands of the Premier League, while his technical skills are expected to develop further with time and experience.

Ultimately, while Manchester United already possess options in defense, the pursuit of Coulibaly highlights their desire to build depth and competition within the squad.

Whether this interest turns into a concrete deal may depend on negotiations with Bremen and the club’s willingness to meet their valuation.
