Manchester United fans spot SHOCK detail in Lisandro Martínez red card incident

A major talking point has emerged among Manchester United supporters following the controversial red card shown to Lisandro Martínez during their recent clash.

Many fans have expressed frustration, claiming that officials overlooked a crucial detail in the incident that ultimately led to the defender’s dismissal.

The situation unfolded during a difficult night for United, who were already trailing 2-0 at halftime after a brace from Noah Okafor. Things went from bad to worse shortly after the restart when Martínez was sent off in the 56th minute.

The decision came after a VAR review prompted referee Paul Tierney to consult the pitchside monitor.

Upon reviewing the footage, Tierney concluded that Martínez had committed an act of violent conduct by pulling the hair of Dominic Calvert-Lewin during an aerial duel.

Following the review, the referee made his stance clear, stating that the Manchester United defender was guilty of hair pulling, which falls under violent conduct according to the laws of the game. As a result, Martínez was immediately shown a straight red card and ordered off the pitch.

Despite visible protests from the player, he eventually made his way down the tunnel, later appearing to explain his side of the incident to teammate Joshua Zirkzee.

While hair pulling is widely recognized as a dismissible offense in modern football, the decision has sparked widespread debate among fans.

Many United supporters believe that the incident was not as one-sided as the officials judged it to be.

Replays appeared to show that during the same tussle, Calvert-Lewin had his hand around Martínez’s throat. This detail, however, did not seem to factor into the referee’s final decision, leading to accusations of inconsistency.

Supporters quickly took to social media to voice their frustrations. A number of fans questioned why Martínez was punished while the alleged action from Calvert-Lewin went unaddressed.

Some described the decision as unfair, arguing that both players were involved in physical contact and that focusing solely on one aspect of the altercation painted an incomplete picture of what actually occurred.

The controversy has only added to the disappointment of the result, as United were forced to continue the match with ten men.

Despite the setback, Casemiro managed to pull a goal back with a header, assisted by Bruno Fernandes, who recorded yet another assist in what has been an impressive individual campaign.

However, the consequences of the red card extend beyond just the match itself. Martínez is now expected to serve a three-game suspension, which will see him miss key fixtures against Chelsea, Liverpool, and Brentford. This absence could prove costly for Manchester United as they navigate a crucial stage of the season.
