Ruben Amorim reportedly pushes AC Milan to complete a £21.6m move for former Manchester United star

Manchester United Set to Part Ways with Christian Eriksen as Italian Giants Prepare £21.6 Million Move

Manchester United’s summer rebuild continues to gather momentum as another experienced first-team player edges closer to the Old Trafford exit door.

The club is reportedly finalizing an agreement that will see Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen return to Italian football in a deal worth approximately £21.6 million, bringing an end to his spell with the Red Devils.

Sources close to the negotiations claim the transfer is progressing rapidly because the interested Serie A club views Eriksen as a key figure in its long-term project.

The manager is believed to be a huge admirer of the former Inter Milan playmaker and has personally encouraged the club’s hierarchy to complete the signing as quickly as possible.

According to reports, Manchester United are equally motivated to conclude the transfer. While Eriksen’s experience and technical ability have been appreciated since his arrival, club officials believe moving him on will significantly reduce the wage bill and create additional financial flexibility for manager Michael Carrick as he continues reshaping the squad ahead of the new season.

    A New Direction Under Carrick

United’s recruitment strategy this summer has focused on building a younger, more energetic squad capable of competing consistently at the highest level.

Carrick and the INEOS leadership are determined to refresh the midfield, prioritizing players entering their prime rather than relying on experienced veterans whose contracts carry substantial financial commitments.

Although Eriksen contributed important moments during his time at Old Trafford with his creativity, vision and composure on the ball, the club reportedly believes the time is right for both parties to move in different directions.

The proposed £21.6 million fee may appear lower than many supporters expected, but United’s decision is believed to have been influenced by the opportunity to remove one of the squad’s highest salary commitments while generating funds for new arrivals.

    Summer Transfer Activity Continues

Eriksen’s departure is expected to form part of a much wider overhaul taking place at Carrington.

Manchester United have already strengthened their midfield by securing Brazilian international Ederson from Atalanta.

The midfielder is widely viewed as a long-term addition capable of bringing energy, athleticism and tactical balance to Carrick’s system after completing his international commitments.

Meanwhile, several senior departures have also reshaped the squad. Rasmus Højlund has reportedly completed a permanent switch to Napoli after an agreement worth around £38 million, while veteran midfielder Casemiro is expected to continue his career in Major League Soccer with Inter Miami after the club opted against extending his contract.

These changes underline the club’s determination to refresh its squad both financially and tactically.

    What Eriksen’s Exit Means

For the Italian club pursuing him, Eriksen is viewed as far more than a squad player. His experience at the highest level, combined with his outstanding passing range and leadership qualities, makes him an ideal candidate to become the creative heartbeat of their midfield.

For Manchester United, however, the move represents another important step in a long-term rebuilding process. Reducing the wage bill while creating room for younger signings has become one of the club’s main priorities this summer.

If the transfer is completed as expected, Christian Eriksen will become another notable departure in what has already become one of Manchester United’s busiest transfer windows in recent years.

With Carrick continuing to reshape his squad, supporters can expect further arrivals and exits before the window officially closes as the club prepares for another campaign with renewed ambitions.
