Manchester United Yet to Officially Confirm Ederson Signing Despite Agreement Being Reached Weeks Ago

Manchester United supporters continue to wait for official confirmation of one of the club’s biggest summer transfers, despite reports claiming that an agreement for Brazilian midfielder Ederson was finalized several weeks ago.

While transfer speculation continues to dominate headlines, many fans have questioned why the club has remained silent regarding the deal, especially after numerous reports suggested that both Manchester United and Atalanta had already reached a full agreement over the player’s transfer.

According to respected transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, there is no cause for concern among United supporters.

The delay, he explains, is not the result of any breakdown in negotiations but simply a matter of completing the final administrative and medical procedures before the transfer can be officially announced.

Manchester United are expected to strengthen several areas of the squad during the current transfer window.

Although the club continues searching for reinforcements on the left wing, much of the attention has shifted toward rebuilding the midfield following the departures of experienced players and the need to prepare for a demanding season.

Ederson has emerged as one of Michael Carrick’s priority targets after impressing with Atalanta through his energetic displays in Serie A.

His combination of defensive discipline, technical quality, work rate, and ability to contribute both in possession and without the ball has made him one of Europe’s most highly-rated midfielders.

Reports indicate that the Brazilian has already agreed personal terms with Manchester United. In addition, both clubs are believed to have finalized the financial details of the transfer, with United set to pay an initial fee of approximately €40.5 million, while an additional €4.5 million could become payable through performance-related bonuses.

Negotiations between the two clubs were reportedly completed early in the summer, leading many supporters to expect an immediate announcement.

However, several weeks have passed without official confirmation, creating uncertainty among sections of the fanbase.

Fabrizio Romano has now provided an explanation for the delay.

According to the transfer expert, Ederson has already completed the first stage of his medical examinations while in New York.

However, before Manchester United can officially register the player and announce the transfer, he must complete the second and final stage of his medical assessment with the club’s medical staff in England.

That final procedure has been postponed because Ederson remains on international duty with Brazil at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Interestingly, the midfielder was not originally expected to participate in the tournament. Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti initially left him out of his squad before injuries created a late opportunity.

Following an injury suffered by Roma defender Wesley shortly before the competition began, Ederson was called into the Brazilian squad as a replacement.

His unexpected involvement at the World Cup has therefore delayed his return to England and, consequently, the completion of the transfer process.

Romano emphasized that all major aspects of the deal have already been settled.

He explained that Manchester United and Atalanta have a verbal agreement in place, the necessary documentation has already been prepared, and the player’s first medical examination has been successfully completed.

The only remaining step is for Ederson to report to Manchester United’s training facilities in England to finalize the second part of his medical.

Once that process is completed, the club will be able to formally announce him as a Manchester United player.

The update should reassure supporters who had begun worrying that the deal might have encountered unexpected complications.

Instead, every indication suggests that the transfer remains firmly on track, with only procedural matters delaying the official unveiling.

Ederson is expected to become an important part of Michael Carrick’s midfield plans as Manchester United continue rebuilding the squad ahead of the new campaign. His arrival would provide additional energy, balance, defensive strength, and technical quality in the center of the pitch.

Until the Brazilian completes his World Cup commitments and returns to England, fans may have to remain patient.

However, if Romano’s latest update proves accurate, it appears to be only a matter of time before Manchester United officially welcome Ederson as one of their newest signings for the upcoming season.
