Real Madrid have not contacted Spanish midfielder’s entourage despite numerous links

Real Madrid Cool Interest in Rodri Despite Fresh €70 Million Transfer Links

Real Madrid’s search for midfield reinforcements has resulted in several high-profile players being linked with a potential move to the Santiago Bernabéu, but one name that has repeatedly emerged in recent months is Manchester City midfielder Rodri.

The Spanish international has long been admired by figures associated with Real Madrid, with his nationality and experience at the highest level making him an obvious candidate whenever discussions surrounding the club’s midfield plans arise. There have also been suggestions that the midfielder could eventually be interested in returning to Spain after spending several successful years in English football.

At one stage, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez and the club’s hierarchy were believed to have Rodri firmly on their radar. However, the situation reportedly became more complicated when the midfielder’s name was associated with Enrique Riquelme and his potential campaign for the Real Madrid presidency.

Although Rodri never publicly expressed support for Riquelme, reports suggest that Real Madrid’s interest subsequently cooled, with the Manchester City star gradually disappearing from Pérez’s immediate transfer plans.

REAL MADRID’S CURRENT POSITION ON RODRI

Despite that previous development, speculation surrounding Rodri and Real Madrid has recently resurfaced.

The midfielder’s impressive performances for Spain have once again placed his future under the spotlight, with reports even suggesting that Real Madrid have been presented with an opportunity to sign him for a fee of approximately €70 million.

However, according to MARCA, the situation is not as advanced as some reports have suggested.

Real Madrid have reportedly made no recent approach to either Rodri or his representatives. Despite widespread rumours surrounding a possible transfer, there are currently no indications that Los Blancos have opened negotiations to bring the midfielder to the Spanish capital.

Rodri’s contract situation at Manchester City has nevertheless added another layer of intrigue to the story.

The Ballon d’Or winner reportedly has just one year remaining on his current agreement with the Premier League giants. With uncertainty surrounding a possible extension, speculation has naturally increased over whether City could consider selling him rather than risk his contract running down.

As things currently stand, however, Real Madrid do not appear to be actively positioning themselves as his next destination.

    FLORENTINO PÉREZ HAS SERIOUS CONCERNS

Florentino Pérez’s position is particularly interesting because the Real Madrid president has reportedly admired Rodri for some time.

There are also believed to be influential figures within the club who would welcome the midfielder’s arrival. From a purely sporting perspective, Rodri possesses many of the qualities Real Madrid are currently searching for.

His ability to dictate the tempo of matches, protect the defence and control possession from deep could provide the team with a midfield profile that some within the Bernabéu hierarchy believe is currently missing.

However, Pérez reportedly has several concerns about committing significant resources to the transfer.

The first major issue is Rodri’s recent injury history.

The midfielder has experienced fitness problems, particularly involving his knee, and Real Madrid are reportedly cautious about investing heavily in another player who could potentially struggle with availability.

The Spanish giants have already experienced significant injury problems within their squad in recent seasons. As a result, the club are understood to be paying close attention to the physical condition and long-term durability of potential transfer targets.

Signing Rodri would therefore represent a calculated risk.

While there is little doubt regarding his ability when fully fit, Real Madrid would need to be convinced that he could consistently remain available throughout a demanding season.

€70 MILLION VALUATION CREATES ANOTHER OBSTACLE

The financial side of the potential transfer is another major consideration.

A reported asking price of around €70 million is considered significant for a player approaching the latter stages of his career and who reportedly has only one year remaining on his Manchester City contract.

Real Madrid must therefore decide whether such an investment would represent good value.

From one perspective, signing a Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder with enormous Premier League and Champions League experience could immediately strengthen the squad.

Rodri understands Spanish football, has competed consistently at the highest level and possesses the leadership qualities required to handle the pressure that comes with representing Real Madrid.

On the other hand, spending approximately €70 million on a player with recent injury concerns and limited time remaining on his contract could be viewed as an unnecessary financial gamble.

Real Madrid may instead prefer to wait and explore younger alternatives who could provide greater long-term value.

REAL MADRID FACE A MAJOR MIDFIELD DECISION

There is little doubt that Rodri’s profile remains attractive to certain figures within Real Madrid.

His experience, tactical intelligence and ability to control matches could immediately improve the team’s midfield options. Internally, there is reportedly still pressure on Pérez to reconsider the possibility of bringing the Spanish international to the Bernabéu.

However, admiration does not necessarily mean a transfer will happen.

For now, Real Madrid have reportedly made no concrete move for Rodri despite the renewed speculation surrounding his future.

The combination of his injury history, age, contract situation and reported €70 million valuation has created enough uncertainty to prevent the Spanish giants from making an immediate approach.

The situation could still change as the transfer window progresses, particularly if Manchester City become more willing to negotiate or significantly reduce their financial demands.

But as things currently stand, Florentino Pérez appears reluctant to sanction the operation.

Rodri may possess exactly the midfield qualities that some within Real Madrid believe the team needs, but unless the circumstances surrounding a potential deal become considerably more favourable, a move to the Santiago Bernabéu appears far from guaranteed.
