Manchester United have reportedly been advised to consider a move for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins if Joshua Zirkzee leaves Old Trafford for Juventus

Manchester United’s attacking plans have become a topic of discussion following speculation surrounding Joshua Zirkzee’s potential move to Juventus.

If the Dutch striker were to leave Old Trafford, questions would immediately arise over whether the club should enter the market for another forward, with Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins being suggested as a possible replacement option.

The England international has reportedly been valued at around £50 million, a figure that could make him an interesting option for Manchester United as they look to strengthen their attacking depth.

While the club is believed to be prioritising Benjamin Šeško as their main striker option, adding another forward with Premier League experience could provide valuable competition and support throughout the season.

Rather than signing another striker who demands to be the automatic starter every week, United could benefit from bringing in a proven goalscorer who understands the demands of English football and can make an immediate impact whenever he is needed.

Watkins fits that description due to his consistency, movement and ability to perform at the highest level.

The Aston Villa striker has built a strong reputation in the Premier League through his pace, intelligent positioning and relentless work rate.

His ability to stretch defences, create opportunities and lead the press from the front makes him a player who could suit different tactical approaches under Michael Carrick.

One of Watkins’ biggest strengths is his willingness to contribute beyond scoring goals. Modern football demands forwards who can help the team defensively, apply pressure on opponents and create problems even when they are not finding the back of the net. Watkins has regularly shown those qualities during his time in the Premier League.

His experience could also become extremely valuable during a season involving both domestic competition and European football.

Manchester United are expected to compete across multiple competitions, meaning squad depth will be crucial.

Having a striker capable of producing important goals while also accepting a rotation role could give United an advantage during difficult periods of the campaign.

A forward who can contribute around 10 to 15 goals in a season without necessarily starting every match could prove to be a major asset.

Injuries, fixture congestion and tactical changes often require managers to have reliable alternatives, and Watkins’ profile could provide Carrick with another attacking solution.

However, the potential transfer would not be straightforward. A £50 million valuation represents a significant investment, and Manchester United would need to decide whether spending such an amount on a backup striker is the best use of resources.

The club may also explore younger alternatives who could develop alongside Šeško for the future.

Despite that, many supporters believe Watkins could immediately improve United’s squad. His Premier League experience, physical qualities and proven goalscoring record would provide something different to the attack.

If Joshua Zirkzee completes a move to Juventus, Manchester United will face an important decision regarding their next attacking move.
