Manchester United’s disappointing 4-2 pre-season defeat against AC Milan in Wrocław has reportedly triggered another wave of controversy, with former Red Devils manager Rúben Amorim allegedly making a remarkable assessment of the problems facing his former club.
The Portuguese coach, who left Manchester United in January 2026 after a difficult spell in charge, watched from the opposite dugout as his AC Milan team completed a dramatic comeback against Michael Carrick’s side.
United had appeared to be in a strong position after taking a 2-1 lead, but Milan eventually turned the match completely around, scoring three further goals during a devastating spell in the second half.
According to sensational claims circulating following the match, Amorim allegedly identified one senior Manchester United player as a major source of the problems he experienced during his own time at Old Trafford.
The report claims that Amorim supposedly warned Carrick that if the player remains at the club, the new United manager could eventually suffer the same fate as him.
The alleged message attributed to Amorim is particularly dramatic, with the former United boss supposedly suggesting that Carrick should remove the player if he wants to build a successful team.

The defender reportedly connected with a Bruno Fernandes set-piece and gave Carrick’s side an early advantage.

Gonçalo Ramos put Milan ahead with a header after another defensive breakdown, giving the Rossoneri a 3-2 lead.
United’s collapse continued almost immediately, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek finding room before producing a curling finish that gave Milan their fourth goal.
The speed of the collapse will concern Carrick, particularly because United had been ahead twice during the match.
Although pre-season results should never be treated as a definitive measurement of a team’s ability, conceding four goals after taking control of the game highlights areas that cannot simply be ignored.
