Mikel Arteta has expressed his view on Chelsea’s second goal in the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge, suggesting that it was more of a fluke than a deliberate action, despite some opinions that it was a chipped goal.
In the match, Mykhailo Mudryk executed a move on the edge of the Arsenal penalty area, leading to his first goal at Stamford Bridge. David Raya, the Arsenal goalkeeper, had moved out of his goal, and it appeared as though Mudryk had chipped the ball over him.
Upon closer examination in the replays, it became apparent that the goal wasn’t intentionally chipped. Instead, it seemed to be a cross intended for Raheem Sterling that went astray and ended up in Raya’s net.
Carrie Brown of beIN Sport mentioned that Chelsea’s goalkeeping coach Toni Jimenez had advised Mudryk to be watchful for Raya leaving his line, and the winger seemed to follow that advice. However, when Arteta was asked about Chelsea’s claims regarding the goal, he expressed skepticism.
When questioned about Chelsea’s assertion that the goal was planned, Arteta appeared surprised and responded, “It didn’t look like it. They might have a better view. If they did it intentionally, then kudos to them.”
The result of the 2-2 draw would likely leave Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Paris Saint-Germain, disappointed as his team let what initially appeared to be an easy victory slip away.
