Manchester United is on the verge of parting ways with Erik ten Hag and bringing in a manager of world-class stature.

Manchester United is reportedly entering discussions to extend the contract of manager Erik ten Hag, with initial talks already underway, as revealed by sources familiar with the matter.

Since taking charge in 2022, Ten Hag led the team to a commendable third-place finish in the Premier League and secured the Carabao Cup during his debut season. Despite facing challenges in the current campaign, including off-field issues and four defeats, United recently showcased resilience with back-to-back wins, notably a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

While Ten Hag’s existing contract extends until June 2025, with an option for a one-year extension, talks about renewal were planned around 18 months into the initial agreement.

The club’s leadership, comprising Chief Executive Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough, is reportedly satisfied with Ten Hag’s performance and is keen on continuing their collaboration.

The ongoing uncertainty surrounding the club’s ownership, marked by the Glazer family exploring strategic alternatives, has not hindered regular operations, including discussions on extending key personnel contracts.

Despite recent challenges, such as public disputes with players like Jadon Sancho and the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, Ten Hag is viewed as a unifying force that provides stability during uncertain times for the club.

While potential acquisition discussions involving interested parties like Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim are ongoing, the Glazers, who reportedly seek £6 billion for a complete sale of the club, are yet to respond. The Raine Group, overseeing the takeover process, awaits further communication in this regard.

In the midst of these developments, the club remains focused on securing Ten Hag’s continued tenure, recognizing his positive impact despite recent challenges. The potential contract extension signals a commitment to stability and continuity in the managerial role, emphasizing Ten Hag’s role in steering the team through both successes and challenges.
