Manchester United has delivered disheartening news regarding Anthony Martial, revealing that the player is scheduled to undergo surgery and will be sidelined for an estimated period of 10 weeks.

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has recently undergone a successful surgery to address a groin issue, and the expected recovery period is approximately 10 weeks. This timeline suggests a potential return to action around April.

Considering his contract is set to expire in June, it’s unlikely that Martial will have a significant role in a United shirt again. The club has reportedly informed him that they won’t activate the one-year extension, marking the conclusion of his nine-year association with Old Trafford.

This development adds to Manchester United’s ongoing injury concerns, particularly in the attacking department. With Martial sidelined, manager Erik ten Hag is left with limited practical options for the forward position.

Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund emerge as the primary choices, with Hojlund being the sole recognized No.9 in the senior squad, and Rashford often appearing less comfortable when deployed centrally instead of his preferred left flank.

As the January transfer window approaches its closure, it has been reported that Manchester United does not plan to delve into the loan market to secure temporary signings to compensate for Martial’s absence. The club is expected to rely on the existing squad members to navigate through the challenges posed by the injury crisis.

This situation places additional pressure on Rashford and Hojlund to step up and deliver in the absence of Martial.

Rashford, who has been versatile in his positioning, might be required to take on a more central role, while Hojlund, as the only recognized No.9, could play a crucial part in leading the line for Manchester United in the coming fixtures.

The decision not to pursue loan signings indicates a commitment to working with the current squad and finding internal solutions to address the striking needs. This approach aligns with the management’s strategy, and it remains to be seen how Rashford and Hojlund will perform in this challenging period.
